Midwestern
Route Identification
Project Final Report
In 2004, the Midwestern region highlighted the selection of
routes as one of its key issues regarding shipments to Yucca
Mountain. The Midwestern Route Identification Work Group
recommended, and the Midwestern Committee accepted, regional
criteria for selecting rail and highway routes. The work
group analyzed available routes from nuclear power plants
and other sites in the
Midwest that will ship through the region using the
same criteria for both rail and highway. After consultations
with state agencies, railroad representatives, and other
interested stakeholders, the work group produced a final
suite of currently
available rail and highway routes. The work group
presented the suite of routes to DOE in December 2005 as the
Midwest's preferred starting point for national discussions
on route selection . For a copy of the final report
