The Great Lakes Legislative Caucus is a nonpartisan group of state and provincial lawmakers from eight U.S. states (Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin) and two Canadian provinces (Ontario and Quebec). Wisconsin Rep. Cory Mason serves as chair of the caucus. CSG Midwest provides staffing services for the caucus. Funding for the caucus is provided by The Joyce Foundation.
The Great Lakes Legislative Caucus has three primary goals:
Facilitate the regional exchange of ideas and information on key Great Lakes issues
Strengthen the role of state and provincial legislators in the policymaking process
Promote the restoration and protection of the Great Lakes
Membership in the Great Lakes Legislative Caucus is free and open to all state and provincial legislators in the jurisdictions that make up the Great Lakes basin: Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, New York, Ohio, Ontario, Pennsylvania, Québec and Wisconsin. Caucus members enjoy several benefits:
The opportunity to propose and vote on caucus resolutions and statements of policy concerning Great Lakes issues of common interest and concern.
The ability to become a leader on Great Lakes issues by serving as officers of the caucus, as members of the Executive Committee, or on committees and task forces.
Possible travel reimbursement in connection with annual caucus meetings as well as other meetings focusing on Great Lakes issues.
The quarterly e-newsletter “Great Lakes News for Legislators” and periodic state and federal legislative trackers compiling detailed information on bills that may have an impact on the Great Lakes.
