December 2006 -- Includes articles on the policy implications of a new vaccine to prevent cervical cancer, a plan to revitalize the Great Lakes region, efforts in Kansas and Wisconsin to improve workforce and economic development, an ongoing dispute between Ohio and its municipalities over home-rule powers, the Midwest's long-term energy outlook, and the value of states' tuition-reciprocity agreements.

November 2006 -- Includes articles on the policy implications of a new vaccine to prevent cervical cancer, a plan to revitalize the Great Lakes region, efforts in Kansas and Wisconsin to improve workforce and economic development, an ongoing dispute between Ohio and its municipalities over home-rule powers, the Midwest's long-term energy outlook, and the value of states' tuition-reciprocity agreements.

October 2006 -- Includes articles on the upcoming 2006 state legislative elections, a new civic education program in the Wisconsin Legislature (Senate Scholars), efforts to preserve farmland in the Midwest, initiatives in Kansas and Illinois to build capacity in those states' nursing-education programs, concerns about recently proposed federal legislation on radioactive-waste transportation and storage, and improving passenger rail service in the Midwest. 

September 2006 -- This month's special edition of Stateline Midwest includes extensive coverage of the MLC Annual Meeting, which was held Aug. 20-23 in Chicago. Articles cover sessions on the future of manufacturing and the Midwest's economy, meeting the needs of the uninsured, fiscal conditions in this region's 11 states, and the role of state legislators in emergency preparedness. In addition, this month's issue looks at MLC meeting speeches made by Mayor Richard Daley and Pulitzer Prize-winning historian Doris Kearns Goodwin. It also includes an article on the two regional winners of CSG Innovations Awards (announced at the meeting) and reviews the work done by the MLC's various public policy committees.   

August 2006 -- Includes articles on a federal law likely to lead to changes in state Medicaid programs, trends in child well-being indicators, a controversial measure in Nebraska that aims to improve K-12 education in the Omaha area, emerging rural-development strategies in the E.U., efforts to improve the safety of rural roads, and Iowa's new plan to cut down on prescription drug abuse.

July 2006 -- Includes articles on state support of its National Guard troops, efforts to promote volunteering in the Midwest, the value of expanding the use of health information technology, U.S. and E.U. agriculture policy trends, North Dakota's attempt to find new alternatives to incarceration, and South Dakota's road to revising its criminal code.

June 2006 -- Includes articles on telecommunications reform, the unique career of Wisconsin Sen. Fred Risser, Minnesota's 2020 Legislative Caucus, efforts to improve K-12 financial literacy, new state concerns about a federal nuclear-waste bill, and the state of Illinois' financial stand against the government of Sudan.

May 2006 -- Includes articles on state proposals to address the region’s growth in legal immigrants and undocumented workers, upcoming ballot initiatives in the Midwest, states’ seed pre-emption laws, efforts to curb identity theft, property-tax relief proposals in Indiana and Illinois, and proposed legislative reforms in Minnesota.

April 2006 -- Includes articles on proposals to expand support for early-childhood learning, interstate compacts being introduced in legislatures, North Dakota's new approach to improving its K-12 funding formula, Ohio's passage of election-reform legislation, bills to expand the use and/or availability of biofuels, and market-based ideas to control health care spending.

March 2006 -- Includes articles on state efforts to improve education-to-workforce preparedness, Wisconsin legislators' push to restrain the governor's veto authority, South Dakota's new ban on most abortions, an Indiana proposal to lease its toll road to a private company, the rural economic impact of biofuels, and proposed "I'm sorry" legislation.

February 2006 -- Includes articles on governors' State of the State addresses, the impact of problems with the launch of the new federal prescription drug benefit in Minnesota, the evolution vs. intelligent design debate in Midwestern states, Michigan's attempt to reform its welfare laws, Nebraska legislation to strengthen its DUI laws, and Illinois' new All Kids insurance program.

January 2006 -- Includes articles on agreements and plans to protect Great Lakes, proposed reforms to the South Dakota Constitution, concerns about future U.S.-Canada border restrictions, an Indiana initiative to earmark more money to the classroom, state efforts to promote homegrown products, and Minnesota's work to prevent and prepare for the spread of pandemic flu.
